Horse racing tips: ‘He has a cracking record at the track' – Templegate's GIANT 20-1 NAP on day one of Glorious Goodwood

TEMPLEGATE tackles day one of Glorious Goodwood confident of giving the bookies a pasting with his top tips. Back a horse by clicking their odds below - and check out this 25-1 outsider who looks very dangerous after a break. Has a cracking record on the Sussex Downs with two wins and a host of excellent placed efforts on this tricky track. James Evans' flyer has dropped back to his last winning mark and showed plenty of heart when second in a tight finish at Pontefract last time. The ground was tacky in Yorkshire that day but he handles quicker conditions too. So this trip is ideal, he likes the track and is on a fair mark. The bookies are taking a chance by chalking him up around the 20-1 mark and he can go close under his capable 5lb claimer. DORSET (1.55 Goodwood, nb) This selection should be right at home on the south coast of England! The Aidan O'Brien hope is bred to be classy and looked full of promise when scooting in at The Curragh last month. He is proven over this trip and has much more to come. He was impressive when winning a Royal Ascot handicap and this longer trip should bring even more improvement. He can go close for the Gosdens who love this race. 1.20 GREY CUBAN clocked a massive personal best when scooting in at Chester last week and looks a fair price to go close again. The booking of Oisin Murphy takes the eye and he is best over this trip on fast or sticky ground. Five of the past six runnings of this have been won by a double-figure draw and even a 7lb rise in the weights doesn't dampen confidence. Jolly Jack Tar is improving with every run and looks the main danger. This is his turf debut for the Gosdens but he had plenty in hand when scoring at Chelmsford last time. He's up 9lb for that but stays and can progress again. Castle Cove is another coming here from a Chester win that was all the better as it came from stall 13. He's on the upgrade for William Haggas. English Oak ran well at Hamilton last time and will go close if seeing out this longer trip while improver Defiance lurks on a fair mark. 1.55 DORSET looked the latest future star off the Ballydoyle production line when stepping up from his debut to win impressively at The Curragh. As you'd expect he's from a high-class family and likes this trip. He should take another big step forward under Ryan Moore. Wathnan Racing snapped up Humidity just before his all-the-way win in the Chesham at Royal Ascot and he's another with plenty more to come. He looks the main threat. Zavateri clocked a good time when winning the July Stakes over 6f at Newmarket. He came from off a strong pace there and should enjoy going up in trip. He has a 3lb penalty but Eve Johnson Houghton continues in excellent form. Do Or Do Not came home with a real rattle for second in that race and will also appreciate this trip. Andab needs more after his Coventry Stakes fourth while Laureate Crown was impressive on his Ascot debut and could nick a place at decent odds. 2.30 NOBLE CHAMPION was impressive when winning the Group 3 Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot last time. Being gelded over the winter has clearly worked wonders as he looked a different horse and clocked a decent time despite drifting across the track late on. He's proven over the trip and is open to plenty of improvement. Kinross still looks the main danger at the age of eight. He's won this twice and has been placed on his two other attempts. He was just behind Ten Bob Tony – who has an each-way shout here – at Haydock last time but is better off at the weights today and will have needed that comeback. His liking for the track is a major plus. Last year's winner Audience has been struggling but he's back from a little break and returning here may rekindle his flame. Quinault got the job done well at York last month at Group 3 level and looks a big price to make the frame over an ideal trip. Jonquil was a head second in the French Guineas before finding the drop to 6f too much last time. This in-between distance could be just right. Lake Forest has some decent form over this trip and is better than we saw at York last time out. 3.05 FRENCH MASTER put himself right in the picture for the Goodwood Cup when running away with the Copper Horse Handicap at Royal Ascot last time. He won that competitive contest over 1m6f like a top-quality Cup horse in the making. He travelled nicely off the pace and had to come very wide around the home turn before picking up quickly along the short Ascot straight to score going away. He clearly has more on his plate here but that built on another promising victory over the same trip around here in May. That shows his liking for the track and moving up to two miles can unlock more improvement too. There's no doubt he needs a step forward but at this early stage of his career that's highly likely. Illinois sets the standard after his second in the Ascot Gold Cup last time to the gutsy Trawlerman. That was his first crack over two miles or more and he saw it out well enough, still finishing ahead of some useful marathon runners. He kicked off the season winning the Ormonde at Chester so he comes here without too many miles on the clock. The doubt about him has to be the track although handling the Roodee bodes well for taking to Goodwood and he has been a little uneasy in the market this week. That's largely because of a move for Aidan O'Brien stablemate Scandinavia who took the Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket last time without breaking sweat. He was beaten just a length in the Queen's Vase before that and is another who looks suited to this trip. He's the Ballydoyle second string but still sets a pretty decent standard. Sweet William fans will hope eight line up as he has solid each-way claims at a track that really suits him. He won a big handicap here in 2023 and was second in this race to Kyprios 12 months ago and none of today's rivals are up to that standard. He can be relied on to give his running and a podium finish is highly likely. Sunway is interesting going back over a long trip after a fair run in the Hardwicke at Royal Ascot but needs more. Military Academy came up short at Listed level here last time and is likely to find this a bit too much. Trueshan isn't the horse he was and wants it much softer, while Dubai Future was a good if distant third in the Ascot Gold Cup last time and is getting on at the age of nine. 3.45 DREAM COMPOSER has a cracking record at Goodwood and looks a big price in a wide-open race. He's dropped to his last winning mark and went close at Pontefract last time. A repeat of that gives him a solid chance. Redorange was beaten just half a length in hot company at Ascot last time despite having the worst of the draw. That was after an excellent third at the Royal meeting and he's a threat. Adrestia finished two places ahead of him in that race and ran well in a Sandown Group 3 last time so is respected. Shagraan often runs well here and is another coming off a good spin in Group company. Regal Envoy won nicely twice at Windsor before misfiring at York and could bounce back under William Buick. Miss Attitude went close in a York Listed contest last time. Templegate's tips Commercial content notice: Taking one of the offers featured in this article may result in a payment to The Sun. Horse racing tips: A 25-1 Glorious Goodwood outsider who looks very dangerous after a break

SUN Racing takes on day one of Glorious Goodwood certain of finding a winner or two at some big prices. Back a horse by clicking their odds below. LONGSHOT SHADOW DANCE (1.20 Goodwood) He put in some smart efforts last season including when touched off in the Mallard over this trip. He can figure after a long break. DO OR DO NOT (1.55 Goodwood) He was beaten just a length in the July Cup at Newmarket and should enjoy this extra furlong. He went close in hot company at Sandown last time out and should be on the premises again. Glorious Goodwood racing tips: Best bets and odds for day one

Tuesday's Glorious Goodwood tips Castle Cove (Goodwood, 13.20) – 1pt win @ 4/1 (William Hill) Zavateri (Goodwood, 13.55) – 0.5pt each-way @ 6/1 (Ladbrokes) Kinross (Goodwood, 14.30) – 0.5pt win @ 10/3 (William Hill) French Master (Goodwood, 15.05) – 0.5pt each-way @ 11/2 (Ladbrokes) Enchanting (Goodwood, 15.45) – 0.5pt each-way @ 14/1 (William Hill) Naval Light (Goodwood, 16.20) – 1pt win @ 13/8 (Bet365) Mahra's Love (Goodwood, 16.55) – 0.5pt each-way @ 6/1 (William Hill) Cinque Verde (Goodwood, 17.30) – 0.5pt each-way @ 11/1 (William Hill) Coral Chesterfield Cup Handicap tips – 13.20 Goodwood Six of the last 10 winners of this tricky 1m2f handicap have come from double figure draws and the likely market leader on betting sites, Castle Cove, has that in his favour. The William Haggas-trained gelding showed ability when scoring at Leicester on debut last year. Comfortably held on his next two starts, he returned from a lengthy break to win going away off a hold-up ride at Chester last month. Both his wins have come with some ease in the ground but he should handle the forecast good going and an 8lb rise makes him look well treated now. He is unexposed and is taken to successfully follow up. Coral Vintage Stakes tips – 13.55 Goodwood The Coral Vintage Stakes looks like being a very informative Group 2 contest over 7f. Aidan O'Brien is responsible for the likely favourite, Dorset, who comes into this on the back of a maiden win at the Curragh last month. He should go well, as should Humidity, for the Andrew Balding/James Doyle combination. A number of other debut winners in the field make this a bit of a conundrum but I like the look of Zavateri, who is 2-2. His style of running suggests he will relish this step up in trip. Eve Johnson Houghton's colt is already proven in this grade, having won the Bahrain Stakes at Newmarket's July meeting, where he improved plenty for his debut success. He has a penalty to shoulder but looks capable of further improvement. Horse racing betting sites price him up at 6/1 to make his mark at Goodwood. HKJC World Pool Lennox Stakes tips – 14.30 Goodwood This looks tricky, with plenty of runners involved where some sort of case can be made and, at the same time, there can be some holes picked in their form. The award for consistency at this level would surely go to Kinross, and Ralph Beckett's eight-year-old gets the nod. He ran a blinder when runner-up in the Group 3 John Of Gaunt Stakes at Haydock on his reappearance. He should be spot on after that, acts on any ground and he is taken to add to his two previous wins in this race. Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup Stakes tips – 15.05 Goodwood The centrepiece on day one is this Group 1 contest for the stayers and some of the sport's greatest have lifted this prize. Aidan O'Brien saddles the pre-race favourite, Illinois, who finished second to Trawlerman in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot last month. His trainer said he didn't get a 'Cup preparation' for that event as he was being trained for shorter events, so it was an admirable effort and he looks a worthy market leader. Given that John and Thady Gosden trained the winner that day, they'll have a handle on how French Master compares and he steps up from Royal Ascot handicap success to the top table this time. That win was a career-best and he's earned his place in this field. An extra couple of furlongs looks a positive and he could emerge as a major player. A price of 11/2 on betting apps looks like good value for the French Master to triumph. Coral Golden Rewards Shaker Handicap tips – 15.45 Goodwood Another tough big field handicap on day one is this Class 2 contest over 5f. Even though this is a straight track, it does take a bit of knowing and those with course form adds a little extra confidence. Into that category comes the Andrew Balding-trained Enchanting. He's a standish dish here, having won three times over C&D and run well on other occasions. He steps up in class this time, so does have a little to prove in that respect but conditions won't be a problem and he looks capable of going close at a double figure price. British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes tips – 16.20 Goodwood There's plenty of promise in the line-up, not least Naval Light. Karl Burke's colt found just one too good on debut at Beverley and was pitched in at Group 2 level at Royal Ascot. He didn't improve his chances that day with a slow start and, as a consequence, could never really get into the race. However, he came home well to pick off half of the field. Pilot James Doyle will surely not let him suffer the same start twice and he looks capable of breaking his duck at the third attempt. Ridgeview Fillies' Handicap tips – 16.55 Goodwood An excellent effort by Dash Of Azure when fifth in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot has ensured the layers want to keep her onside and any value in her price has gone as a result. That's not the case with Mahra's Love, who comes here seeking a hat-trick after wins at Kempton (7f, AW) and more recently when making all at York (1m, good to firm). There was plenty to like about how she took that race by the scruff of the neck and comfortably accounted for the field. Her trainer, William Haggas, has his string in continued good form and she looks likely to continue on an upward curve, despite a 6lb rise. World Pool Bet With The Tote EBF Fillies' Handicap tips – 17.30 Goodwood The day one nightcap is another fillies' contest, this time over 6f. There looks to be a cracking each-way play here in Cinque Verde, who represents Tony Carroll. The daughter of Sioux Nation has had more success on all weather surfaces than turf but she has won on a sound surface, sees out 6f well and has been more consistent than many sprinters this calendar year. There are no secrets with her but she arrives on a competitive mark and looks capable of another big effort at a track where she's already been placed this season. Glorious Goodwood odds: Latest betting odds for Glorious Goodwood 2025

Glorious Goodwood has been an integral part of the British horse racing calendar since 1802, being held in late July and/or early August since its inception. With 37 races spread across five days, it's a feast of flat racing for bettors and we've got all the best Goodwood odds from betting sites for each and every race of this unique festival. An unusual, quirky racecourse compared to many around the world, Goodwood does not have a complete circuit, with a series of loops helping to create the races longer than sprints. Races of six furlongs or less are contested on the straight course, which climbs for the first furlong or so before being mostly downhill from that point. The meeting has strong links to summer fashion and is set in the beautiful scenery of the Sussex Downs, with the south coast in view from the back of the main grandstand. There are three Group 1 races during the week, with the Sussex Stakes, contested over one mile, being the centrepiece. The Goodwood Cup and the Nassau Stakes complete the trio of top races, while there are numerous other Group races across the five days and the Stewards Cup, a prestigious six-furlong sprint handicap, contested annually on the final day. You'll find Goodwood racing odds for all those feature races and more from licensed and regulated horse racing betting sites on this page. Glorious Goodwood Odds Glorious Goodwood 2025 begins on Tuesday 29 July and runs until Saturday 2 August on the Sussex Downs. Bettors can find odds for each and every race at Glorious Goodwood using our live odds tracker, which pulls in odds from online bookmakers and displays the best prices for each runner. The Goodwood horse racing odds above are live and updated in real time, so make sure to bookmark this page to stay up to date with the latest prices. Glorious Goodwood Races Guide Glorious Goodwood Day 1 A fabulous five days of action begins on Tuesday, 29 July with the Group 2 Lennox Stakes. The feature on the opening day is the Group 1 Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup Stakes. Contested over two miles, this race has seen some of the best stayers ever to have raced involved, including recent favourites such as the four-time winner, Stradivarius. Glorious Goodwood Day 2 Day two takes place on Wednesday, 30 July and places an emphasis on speed. The traditional feature is the Group 1 Sussex Stakes, contested over one mile. First run in 1841, this race features the pick of the nation's milers aged three and upwards. In recent history, the brilliant Baaed won this race in 2022, while Frankel, who many believe to have been the greatest horse of them all, lifted the prize in both 2011 and 2012. There's also a chance to see some stars of the future with the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes open to two-year-old speedsters. Glorious Goodwood Day 3 Day three is Ladies Day. There'll be some fabulous fashions to enjoy and the pick of the action on the track is the featured Visit Qatar Nassau Stakes over a mile and two furlongs. This race was first run in 1840 and has been run over its current distance since 1911, while being promoted to Group 1 status in 1999. The magnificent Midday won this race three years in succession from 2009-2011 under jockey Tom Queally. The Richmond Stakes is another classy Group 2 sprint race for two-year-olds over six furlongs. We'll have all the Goodwood odds from online bookmakers and betting apps for the Nassau Stakes, the Richmond Stakes, plus all the other races on day three. Glorious Goodwood Day 4 Day four at Goodwood puts speed front and centre again. The feature race is the Group 2 King George Qatar Stakes, worth over £170,000 to the winner. This five-furlong sprint has featured many of the fastest horses ever to have raced, including the wonderful Battaash, who won the race in four successive years from 2017 to 2020, under jockey Jim Crowley. The supporting cast on Friday isn't bad either, with bettors able to find Goodwood odds for the Coral Golden Mile and the Group 3 Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes. Glorious Goodwood Day 5 The curtain comes down on Glorious Goodwood on Saturday, when the feature race is the Stewards' Cup, a valuable big field sprint handicap over six furlongs. This cavalry charge has proved an incredibly difficult race to win but the Michael Dods-trained Commanche Falls holds the rare distinction of winning it two seasons in succession, in 2021 and 2022. Glorious Goodwood Odds Explained The odds on each horse at Glorious Goodwood, just like at any other horse race meeting, are determined based on market confidence and not on predictions. Bookies will set the initial odds on a horse based on what they think its chance is of winning the race. The better the chance, the shorter the odds. Those deemed less likely to win are priced accordingly, with bigger odds. Once the betting market has open, the odds then fluctuate according to market confidence, so if more people bet on a horse, its odds will shorten. If fewer people bet on a horse than the bookies expected, its odds can increase. Ante-post odds are odds that bookies offer in advance of the day of the race. Just like odds offered by bookmakers on the day of the race, ante-post odds can also change frequently. Responsible Gambling Sports betting can be enjoyable, but it's important to stay in control and gamble responsibly.
